It all began in 2006 with a phone call! The voice on the other end asks, "Do you need a job?" "Of course, I answered." I had just graduated from Lander University with my Bachelor's degree. My acceptance of the temporary part-time position involved teaching rocketry. Something I knew nothing about. However, I was determined to learn more and more and I wanted others to do so to. So I recruited my three nephews, aka my turkeys (then 3,6 & 9 years old)! In 2015 with my turkeys as my students I ,unofficially, started the Rocket People! We literally had a blast launching rockets and attending rocketry events to include the last Space Shuttle launch in 2011! Years later I sought to learn more about rocketry and found the National Association of Rocketry. As the years passed I earned my Masters Degree in Education from Grand Canyon University, took a permanent position at my job, earned my NAR Rocket Science Teacher Certification, NAR Training Rocketeers for Experience and Knowledge Certification (NARTREK), and my Level ONE and TWO certifications in high power rocketry. During the pandemic I created a face to face and virtual professional development (BARST & BARST Lite) for teachers. In addition I have just been named the NAR Education Chair. (2023) I am a person of faith and with my husband Antonio, our turkeys, my rocket mentor Johnny and some highly qualified teacher friends we are The Rocket People!

Certified, Homeschool and afterschool TEACHERS come let The Rocket People REFRESH the fun in your classroom. TRP will instruct you on how to teach rocketry in your classroom. Whether you have been launching rockets for 30 years or never heard of model rockets we have something for you! This 5 hour professional development will have you confidently teaching rocketry in your classroom before the PD is over. TRP will discuss tips and tricks on how to teach rocketry to students ages 7 and up! Receive a certificate of completion to submit for professional development .

A 5,4,3,2,1 countdown by everyone in attendance will launch a beautiful pre-built rocket into the sky! The color of the smoke and/or parachute reveals the babies gender!

Speaking and Rocket Demo! This 45 min session displays large high power rockets as well as small model rockets. Groups of up to 25 will get to see and hear about rockets of many kinds and the experiences that accompany them! The session will conclude with a rocket demonstration that will leave your group yelling Holy Moly!

Are you a Middle or High School student who is interested in earning a NARTREK certificate or competing on a local, state and national level in rocketry. This 2 hour session will teach you about competition rocketry and what it takes to launch with the best!

Couples Married or Dating, this is the perfect event for you! Groups of 5-10 couples will spark a fire in their relationships by building, launching and recovering a real model rocket! Groups will be provided with a 2.5 hour session of instruction with a Certified Rocketeer, all the materials needed to build, launch and recover a model rocket, a bottle of sparkling cider and flutes!

BARST. Becoming a Rocket Science Teacher, was one of the best professional development classes that I have ever attended. Robyn Jackson, the creator, and instructor for this professional development provided a gentle and fun connection to NAR, the National Association of Rocketry. Not only did she guide teachers through the narTcert certification process, but then also established means and resources to continue with additional model rocket certification and grant opportunities. I would recommend BARST to any teacher interested in bringing model rocketry to their students.

I highly recommend the BARST PD and program. I learned so much about rocketry and how to incorporate the building of rockets for my second graders. Robyn is so helpful and made this experience even greater then I had imagined. Even through crazy COVID-19, we were able to participate virtually and build the rockets together. The best part was launching the rocket at the end because Robyn came and made the experience so real. I can’t wait to teach this lesson with my second graders and I know they will have the same excitement when launching their rocket as I did.

The BARST (Becoming a Rocket Science Teacher) is the most enjoyable PD I ever had so far. I learned a lot and I was able to get a high-level skill that I have dreamed of since I was young. This PD helped me become a better educator because I learned to go beyond what I already know.
